OUR TOP 5 TIPS FOR DECORATING WITH FUR
Rivalled only by velvet, fur is one of the easiest ways to make a space feel cosy and welcoming, not to mention much more glamorous! We can all look forward to hunkering down as the colder months approach. It makes the home feel much warmer.
People have different feelings on fur - it’s a loaded topic – which is why there are tonnes of luxurious and affordable faux and ethically sourced natural fur options within our range.
1 - Add it to a space that needs texture
Adding fur makes a room feel instantly cosier and more inviting. When everything is neat and tidy, introducing fur gives a natural, relaxed feel. The luscious texture will create a sumptuous look that will really elevate the space.
It’s fun to play with contrast in interiors. If you have a modern space, try placing fur on metal or wire frame chairs to give a juxtaposition of contemporary with an inviting element. You can bring fur into more formal spaces to make it feel less cold. White faux fur on a chair in the office or studio, will warm the space without diminishing the formality of the room.
It’s easy to go overboard, so try to limit it to two or three items thoughtfully placed in a room. This can be a simple faux fur cushion, a natural hide, or an opulent throw. You don’t want it to look like you live in Antarctica! Just a touch of fur is sophisticated.
2 - Look at the tone and fur length
For a natural feel with faux fur, look for items that have longer hair and a lot of variation in tone, so it looks more real. Our Heirloom collection has beautiful, exotic faux furs which are perfect for this. If you're looking for light-coloured faux fur, creamy hues will always look more natural than stark white.
The short pile length and flat colour tone of our Pele faux furs give a contemporary finish that’s fresh and trendy. While our range of natural furs in goat, Tibetan lamb, NZ sheepskin, reindeer, and cow hide bring a rustic, relaxed, Scandinavian feel to a room.
3 - Go lighter for longevity
Fur doesn’t just need to be for winter and can look great all year-round when it's in the right colours. It’s much more trans-seasonal now just like velvet in the summer months. If you’re lucky enough to enjoy warmer weather year-round, or simply don't want to change out your fur décor each season, opt for lighter colours like fawn, tan, greys, and creams. Darker, warmer or jewel tones tend to lean more toward winter and autumn. Lighter colours are also easy to pair with a wider variety of colour schemes and mix well with more modern colours, like navy and dusky pink.
4 - Place fur where people can touch it
The appeal of fur is the wonderful blend of opulence and cosiness, and the way they make a room more engaging. By giving people something textured that's soft and appealing touch you invite them into the room.
Place furs in easy-to-reach places so you and your guests can really enjoy them. Imagine curling up on the sofa beside the fire with a warm fur throw on chilly winter evenings. The bedroom is another great space to use fur because it's so snug and comfy. A faux fur throw placed along a bed end is truly luxurious and if you have pets, they’ll love curling up on it too.
5 - Check how to care for it
Some furs can only be spot cleaned, dry-cleaned, or hand washed so it’s a good idea to carefully check the care and cleaning labels. If you look after your faux and natural fur pieces, they will wear beautifully and last for years for you to enjoy.
